Keep That Glow On

Although August is about to say bye-bye and the start of school is peaking across the horizon, we don’t have to feel all the great things of summer are gone just yet! You may look forward to the cosiness of autumn and we are here with some great tips to help you keep that sun-kissed summer glow that always makes you feel healthy and alive going throughout all the seasons.

Stone Crop Body Scrub

Here are our Top Tips to help you keep your summer glow going.

1. Exfoliate

A great tip for the end of the summer season is to do a body polish and gentle peel for the face. Removing any excess build-up of dead skin on the face and body will get rid of any dullness in your skin and reveal a natural healthier glowing skin. The dead skin cells on the surface of your skin can make your skin look duller, older and more crepey. A good scrub all over removes this layer allowing the newer healthy skin cells to shine. Look for body scrubs with natural granules such as sugar, nuts or coffee grains, the smaller the grittiness the better, as the scrub will be less aggressive on your skin. Sugar granules make excellent scrubs as they naturally contain glycolic acid an organic ingredient used in facial peels! For the face we recommend a gentle peel, one that is less than 5% to resurface the skin and promote new cell renewal.

2. Moisturise

It may seem obvious but keeping your skin moisturised is a key component to keeping it healthy. A moisturised, plumped skin will always look glowing and although your skin naturally produces moisture in the form of lipids, we often need to use a moisturiser to keep our skin soft and supple. Moisturisers will often contain other beneficial ingredients as well such as antioxidants and vitamins along with ingredients that stimulate circulation, cell renewal and collagen and elastin production. When these ingredients work together your skin will look more youthful and rejuvenated. Moisturisers also offer protective benefits with ingredients that support the skins natural barrier, they help lock in moisture and keep impurities and bacteria out. Vitamin C is one of the best ingredients for a summer glow, it helps to sooth redness and inflammation, plump and protect the skin, minimise signs of ageing and leave your skin brighter and more even toned.

3. Cheat

Make-up and fake tan! One of our favourite products to keep your summer skin sun-kissed is an organic bronzer, you can use this on your face, décolleté and shoulders to enhance and maintain the depth of skin tone you have in the summer. Another great option is to look at an organic fake tan for the face and body. These have come a long way in recent years, when applied as directed they are less likely to leave you streaky or orange looking! A great tip is to make sure your skin is exfoliated and hydrated and when applying your fake tan be thorough. Make sure you follow the instructions of your fake tan, but we always apply it to the larger areas of the legs, body, arms first and then work out from there. If it is a creamy product, we make sure we massage it in well and taper out over ankles and hands. Remember if you aren’t using a glove or application mitt to really wash your hands afterwards as you don’t want to leave tell-tale signs around your fingernails or knuckles!

4. Eat

You are what you eat! Now take of this what you will, but a study in the American Journal of Public Health found that “eating more fruit and vegetables can change skin tone, lending it a healthier glow, within a matter or weeks” (Medical News Today reports). But can this really be true? The report indicates that carotenoids, the orangey-red pigments that you find in fruits and veges of that colour such as; carrots, squash, pumpkin, sweet potato, oranges, apricots etc. may contribute to that change in skin tone! Now even if this is a strange theory for you the fact remains that eating more fruits and veges means you are heating more antioxidants and nutrient rich foods, this is always going to help your whole-body wellness and in turn your healthy skin glow! As we get closer to autumn it is the perfect time to increase these seasonal vegetables into your diet and maybe keep your skin glowing throughout the winter too!
