Natural And Organic Beauty: What’s The Difference?

Did you know that every day most of us apply more than 168 chemicals to our bodies, from toothpaste and shower gel to deodorant and make-up?

If you’re interested in adopting a more natural skincare routine, gravitating towards products that say natural, vegan, organic isn’t such a bad thing, but as the words ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ are often used interchangeably, it’s important to know the difference so you know you are choosing truly clean beauty products.

What Does Natural Mean?

Natural skin care products are considered to be anything that has ingredients produced by nature i.e. water, plants, flowers etc. But beware, as products can use words such as natural even if their ingredients are mostly synthetic with only 1% of their total ingredients being natural, so how can you tell if it’s really natural? Look at the ingredients, they are generally listed in order of percentage from highest to lowest, so you’d expect to see botanicals up top and any synthetic ingredients nearer the bottom. Natural extracts are usually named according to their Latin name, so it’s best to look them up if you are not sure.

What Does Organic Skincare Mean?

The main difference between organic compared to natural skincare is that organic skincare is regulated, and the ingredients of a product must have been prepared and grown without the use of chemicals, pesticides parabens and sulphates etc.

Since 1958, Eminence has been a pioneer of the organic skincare movement. Eminence’s Organic Skin Care is proudly free of parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, harmful colourants and fragrances, mineral oils, petroleum, and other harsh cosmetic chemicals. Eminence are passionate about using the best natural, organic and Biodynamic® ingredients to ensure that we bring you the healthiest and most effective skincare products.

Eminence Organic Skin Care is also certified by the non-profit B Lab® to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency as well as other certifications that recognise the commitment to organic agriculture.

Does Natural Mean Vegan-Friendly?

Finding the best vegan skin care products can often be difficult because although vegan is often associated with the natural and organic world, don’t assume your skincare is actually vegan! Vegan cosmetic products can contain several artificial components which can also be found in conventional cosmetic products. At Eminence, we are proud to provide a wide range of vegan-friendly products for every step of your routine. Each of these products are cruelty-free and formulated without parabens, animal by-products, synthetic dyes or petrochemicals

What Are the Benefits of Using Organic Skincare Products?

Nature provides us with everything we need to be healthy, so it makes sense to harness the power of natural goodness. Without the use of harsh chemicals, the organic skincare benefits will far outweigh those of synthetic, by nourishing and restoring skin naturally. Organic skincare lines also have better sustainability practices and will be against animal testing so are better for the planet and wildlife.
