Vegan Skincare Explained

What is Vegan?
The dictionary describes Vegan as:
noun
- a person who does not eat any food derived from animals and who typically does not use other animal products.
"I'm a strict vegan"
adjective
- eating, using, or containing no food or other products derived from animals.
"a vegan diet"
Therefore, an explanation for vegan skincare is: products that do not contain animal derived ingredients and are not tested on animals. This appeals to persons who are both interested in a vegan lifestyle as well as a vegetarian lifestyle. Many skincare lines do use products that are derived from animals such as bovine collagen, dairy produce, animal derived elastin and oestrogen and enhanced colours which are added to cosmetic products especially those derived from insects.
Effective Vegan Skincare:
It is great to be able to use effective skincare products that are vegan when you follow this type of life choices. Eminence has a large variety of vegan friendly skincare options and below are some of our favourites.
A side note Eminence does not use ingredients directly derived from animals; however, we do use honey and yogurt in some of our products. We do not consider these products to be vegan friendly but can be considered vegetarian friendly.
Our Favourite Vegan Friendly Products:
Cleansers: Almost all of our cleansers are vegan friendly except for Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser which contains yogurt. Our top three cleansers for all skin types are;
Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Cleanser, a gel cleanser for a radiant, glowing complexion, Lemon Cleanser, a creamy cleanser with a fresh citrus scent for all skin types including sensitive and Stone Crop Cleansing Oil, one of our best sellers this oil cleanser with jojoba oil and sunflower oil is gentle enough to use around the eye area too.
Toniques & Mists: All Eminence Toniques and Mists are also vegan friendly with our faves being Stone Crop Hydrating Mist, Lime Refresh Tonique and the dual action toner; Pineapple Refining Tonique with PHA to gently exfoliate the surface of the skin. Our “toners” are all alcohol free, hydrating the skin not drying the skin!
Exfoliants: Again, almost all of Eminences retail exfoliants are great for a vegan lifestyle except one our Firm Skin Acai Exfoliating Peel. This leaves three Vitaskin Exfoliating Peels, our Yam & Pumpkin Enzyme Peel and two physical peels with Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant and Stone Crop Oxygenating Fizzofoliant.
Masques: Eminence has five masques which are classed as vegan face masques: Firm Skin Acai Masque full of super berries high in vitamins and antioxidants, Kombucha Microbiome Leave-On Masque suitable for all skin types and for more targeted concerns Acne Advanced Clarifying Masque, Yellow Sweet Clover Anti-Redness Masque and Pumpkin Latte Hydration Masque.
Treatments, Serums and Facial Oils: You will find a great selection of concentrated vegan products within Eminence’s range, some of our most popular ones include; Bamboo Firming Fluid, a silky light-weight serum with Natural Retinol Alternative, Kombucha Microbiome Luminosity Serum, great for dull and sensitive skins and Facial Recovery Oil, nicknamed Liquid Gold! As it is so versatile with its beneficial results.
Moisturisers: There are only two Eminence moisturisers that are non-vegan, Clear Skin Probiotic Moisturiser and Eight Greens Whip Moisturiser. All other moisturisers are vegan friendly with the best seller year on year being Coconut Age Corrective Moisturiser from the same range as our beloved Bamboo Firming Fluid above. We also love Mangosteen Gel Moisturiser with its creamy-gel texture and pore-refining qualities. All our SPF moisturisers are vegan-friendly which is so good as protecting your skin from the sun should be part of everyone’s skincare routine.
Eye and Lip Care: Amongst our great eye care options we have Herbal Eye Make-Up Remover which removes, waterproof mascara and hi-def make-up products, plus a range of eye creams; Bearberry Eye Repair Cream is our most gentle eye cream for even the most delicate eyes, Hibiscus Ultra Lift Eye Cream gives instant lifting and toning, Wild Plum Eye Cream is great for tired eyes and for dark circles and Neroli Age Corrective Eye Serum can be used underneath any other eye cream or on it’s own, is it super light-weight and treats crows feet, puffiness and dark circles. For your lip care we have the amazing Marine Flower Peptide Lip Serum which plumps, hydrates and reduces fine lines and wrinkles… loved by professional whistlers!
Body and Hand Care: With an array of body lotions, body oils and body scrubs, your vegan skincare routine doesn’t have to stop at the neck! We love our Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Body Lotion as the smell is just so gorgeous, Stone Crop Body Oil has Arnica and Indian Gooseberry which helps to relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints and Coconut Sugar Scrub is the most popular body scrub with our customers. Mangosteen Replenishing Hand Cream will keep your hands looking youthful and keeps them moisturised for up to three hand washes!
