Guide to Cleansers

What are Skin Cleansers and Why Do We Use Them?

The simple question is what is a cleanser?... and the answer is … a skin or facial cleanser is a product that will clean your skin. They are designed to remove the daily buildup of excess dirt, impurities and oils. They will do a great job of cleaning away any make-up, skincare products or SPF products you’ve applied, they will clean your skin of any pollutants and gently exfoliate away surface dead skin cells.

You should use a facial cleanser every day, ideally in the morning and at night to ensure your skin is clean and healthy. Make sure you use a facial cleansers over a product like soap for example as they are designed to clean your skin without stripping away natural oils and won’t damage your skins protective layer, the skin barrier function. They are often formulated to balance your skins natural pH, leaving your skin feeling fresh and hydrated not stripped and dry!

Types Of Cleansers

There are a few different types of facial cleansing products and it will depend on your skin type and if you have any skin concerns as to which type of facial cleanser you opt for.

  • Gel Cleansers – usually a gel cleanser is suited for a normal to oily or combination skin types. The lighter texture and “squeaky” clean feel is often preferred by oilier skins – an example of a gel cleanser is Stone Crop Gel Wash.
  • Cream Cleansers – creamy cleansers leave your skin feeling moisturised and the richer texture is preferred by a normal to dry, dehydrated skin type – try Coconut Milk Cleanser or Lemon Cleanser.
  • Foam Cleansers – very light in texture, foamy cleansers are often formulated for acne, breakout prone skins or younger skin types – Acne Advanced Cleansing Foam is sulphate free!
  • Oil Cleansers – although you would think that an oily cleanser would be for a dry skin as an oily skin would find it too oily! Most oil cleansers are formulated for all skin types. They contain good oils that remove the bad oils and do not strip away those good oils which can lead to more oil production in the long run! Stone Crop Cleansing Oil is a best seller!
  • Cleansing Balms – are usually a thicker consistency, with a rich luxurious texture, they are ideal for mature, dry, dehydrated and sensitive skins – Wildflower Cleansing Balm is a transformative balm gel to balm cleanser
  • 2-In-1 Cleansers – these are cleansers with exfoliating properties as well. Any of the above types of cleansers could include an exfoliant designed for daily resurfacing and removal of dead dull skin. Eminence has a few exfoliating cleansers, Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Cleanser uses gentle AHA’s to resurface the skin for a radiant complexion.

The Benefits of Using Skin Cleansers

The Benefits of Using Skin Cleansers
Using a face cleanser benefits your skin by keeping it fresh and clean and also healthy and vibrant looking. If you do not cleanse your skin with a facial cleanser, you can leave your skin open to clogged pores, breakouts, dullness and even sensitivity. So, what is a cleanser used for?

Helping To Keep Your Skin Hydrated

Using a proper facial cleanser will help to keep your skin balanced and hydrated. Eminence cleansers are formulated to hydrate and treat your skin. Not only will they leave your skin shiny and clean but they will infuse your skin with botanical actives to leave your skin soft and supple.

Removes Dirt and Pollution

You wouldn’t wear dirty clothes so why would you “wear” a dirty face! During the day you are exposed to dirt, impurities, pollution and other external factors that leave a film on your skin that needs to be cleansed away. You should also remove any products that you have applied like your make-up or SPF products, to avoid clogging your pores and possible breakouts.

Eliminates Dead Skin Cells

the gentle rubbing action of cleansing your face will gently remove the superficial dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. This will leave your skin looking fresher and younger. You can achieve a deeper exfoliation of your skin with a 2-In-1 exfoliating cleanser designed for daily use.

Cleansers Help Rejuvenate Your Skin

When you cleanse, you massage the facial cleanser into your skin, this has a stimulating effect on your circulation and your skin cells. Increasing your circulation helps to bring oxygen to heal and repair your skin and stimulate cell renewal. It also stimulates your lymph system which helps to remove toxins from your skin leaving your skin healthier and rejuvenated.

An Effective Anti-Aging Solution

Eminence facial cleansers are highly concentrated and treat your skin as well as cleanse your skin. Using a cleanser with anti-aging ingredients will firm and plump your skin, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles, Try Monoi Age Corrective Exfoliating Cleanser or Firm Skin Acai Cleanser for effective anti-aging results.

Used To Treat Several Skincare Issues

Facial cleansing products come in many different formulations. You will find a cleanser for all the different skin types and skin care concerns such as: dryness, dehydration, sensitivity, acne, breakout prone, oily, normal, combination, mature and pigmentation issues. Different ingredients will target different concerns and for some using one cleanser in the morning and a different cleanser at night is a perfect solution for multiple concerns. For example, you may have oily, breakout prone and mature skin and use a cleanser designed more for treating oily skin in the day and a richer cleanser for mature skin at night. It is fun to experiment and some people even like to do a double cleanse each time!
