How Greens Are Good for Your Skin - The Power of Botanical Ingredients

As an innovative leader in global skincare, Eminence has long been an advocate for botanical ingredients. Powerful, effective, and healthy, it’s not just a great idea to eat your greens but they have significant benefits to the skin when formulated into skincare products too.

Let’s look at our Top 10 Healthy Greens and How They Help Your Skin!

One of Eminences favourite “green” ingredient is Stone Crop, you will find this little gem in many of our products and we love it so much we actually have a Stone Crop line of products where Stone Crop is the hero ingredient.

Stone Crop is a succulent plant, it has thick rubbery leaves and comes from the same family as Aloe! It is versatile, smells fresh and offers benefits to every skin type and concern. It is uber healing and hydrating, it brightens and balances and repairs and rejuvenates, to name but a few of the many benefits of this fabulous plant. It will soothe sensitivity, brighten and even out skin tone, heal and calm breakouts, as well as smooth and repair ageing. It truly has something for everyone… If you look you’ll find stone crops everywhere right now, from the supermarket to the garden centre!

Aloe and Aloe Vera, Have you ever asked what is the difference between the two? Aloe is the name given to the 420 different species of aloe whereas Aloe Vera is an actual plant, one of those 420 it is the Aloe Barbadensis Miller plant. The aloe species are all great healing plants helping the skin to repair and rejuvenate quickly speeding up the healing process. They are also great anti-inflammatory plants soothing and calming, irritated, damaged skins. You will often find this green healing hero in products that you use after injury, sunburn and some invasive treatments such as laser, peels or medical procedures. As they are so good at repairing and healing, they are also widely used in skincare… plus just like their sister plant the Stone Cro,p they are super hydrators too!

Greens

Marine Flowers as we like to call them are the superfood gems of the sea, from the dark green Spirulina to Blue Green Algae these wonderful sea flowers are overflowing with benefits to the skin. They are high in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants which are all vital for a healthy skin. Helping to increase firmness whilst intensely hydrating the skin they also contain compounds to boost and protect our skins natural barrier function. They help to prevent dryness and visible signs of ageing which helps to keep your skin vibrant, youthful, and protected. They have another great benefit as they help the absorption of other ingredients, meaning your products absorb deeper into the epidermal and dermal layers improving the effectiveness of those products.

Spinach, do you remember Popeye and his love for Spinach, we share that love as this green superhero not only strengthens muscle mass as it did for Popeye, it also promotes collagen production as it is high in Vitamin C, it is full to the brim with antioxidants, and nutrient dense helping the skin to appear more youthful, brighter and firmer.

Broccoli, another green gem with anti-ageing, healing and soothing benefits, it is full of Vitamins A and C and Zinc. Broccoli also contains Lutein which is very important to the health of our skin and bodies as it helps protect us from what we call oxidative stress. This is where too many free radicals have affected the skin and/or the body! The imbalance between Free Radicals and Antioxidants results in cell damage and possibly cellular death. This can manifest itself as ageing, dull, fatigued skin and in the body as various diseases. As a protective ingredient Broccoli also helps to protect the skin from UV damage specifically, as it contains the compound sulforaphane.
