Out with the old, in with the new!

The quickest and easiest way to start your new skincare routine is to give your bathroom cabinet an update. Just to make it clear, we’re not suggesting you throw all your current skincare away as this would be both a waste of products and of money.

It’s very likely that you have products that you can incorporate into your new skincare routine and in fact often breathe new life into products you may have been using in the same way for years by switching up how you use them and which products you use them with. Having said this there are some products which you simply must discard, anything you know is old or can’t remember buying, has changed colour, smell or texture. Any products containing anything nasty like parabens, sodium laurel sulphate (SLS), butylated hydroxyamino (BHA) and retinol should be examined closely and potentially permanently removed from your bathroom.

Eminence uses natural retinol alternative in products such as Bamboo Firming Fluid, Neroli Age Corrective Hydrating Mist, Neroli Age Corrective Eye Serum and Monoi Age Corrective Exfoliating Cleanser. The natural retinol alternative is derived from Chicory root and Tara Tree gum which visually rejuvenates your appearance with smoother and firmer looking skin without the unpleasant side effects such as redness and irritation.

Go Cleaner and Greener

You definitely won’t regret switching to Organic beauty, more people than ever are making small changes to live more sustainably and there is great interest in organic and vegan skincare lines. Green beauty is not just good for the planet but also for our skin, when you are using products made from natural ingredients you can feel confident that you are treating skin to the good stuff rather then covering it in nasties.

Eminence source premium ingredients from organic farms worldwide to ensure product purity and potency and of course many products are sourced from the Eminence Certified Organic Farm in Hungary. Organic skincare is rooted in a holistic approach to farming and production which ensures that the land farmed is treated with respect and the products produced contain no harsh chemicals.

Eminence products are made with fresh fruit pulps, plants and exotic spices. The results gained by using the products are a result of these nutrient rich ingredients. The only animal products used in Eminence skincare are honey which is an amazing natural preservative and yoghurt which is used in the Clear Skin line as a moisturising and nourishing exfoliant.

Get Your Application Methods Right!

Think of applying your skincare products as a mini facial, don’t just half-heartedly dab products onto your skin or quickly rub them across your face.

Whether it’s a Cleanser, serum or a Moisturiser gently massage it into your skin in an upward circular motion. Not only will this help boost your circulation and the absorption of the product but will be a relaxing start and end to your day.

If you’re going to invest in new products, it’s important to get the most out of them.

Don’t Forget to Exfoliate

Exfoliation occurs naturally in our skin when the dead epidermis cells (skin cells) shed to be replaced with the new cells underneath. As we age this process becomes less effective, leaving an excess of dead skin cells.

Exfoliating products help to prevent a build up of dead skin cells and reveals lovely, bright and youthful skin beneath. There are several different types of exfoliants and which one you chose depends on your individual needs and skin type. You can choose between a physical exfoliant which would typically be a scrub or a chemical exfoliant which would be an acid-based peel.

Physical exfoliants are fine granules with a gritty texture, that you can massage on to scrape off dead skin cells,  Eminence Stone Crop Oxygenating Fizzofoliant and Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant are great physical exfoliants that leave the skin polished and smoothed. They are truly versatile products that can be either used alone with water or cooled herbal tea or mixed into other products. To use alone just add a few shakes of the product into a damp palm, add a few drops of liquid and rub your hands together to create a foam with the Stone Crop and a creamy paste with the Strawberry Rhubarb. To transform other products into exfoliators, just add a few shakes to a cream cleanser such as Eminence Lemon Cleanser mix in, apply to your face and wash off as per the directions and finally you can mix into a creamy mask to make an exfoliating mask, as with the cleanser go for something creamy such as Eminence Coconut Cream Masque and mix your exfoliant powder into the mask and apply as per the jar directions. This is a great way of getting three for the price of two on your products, a cream cleanser/mask, an exfoliant, an exfoliating cleanser/mask.

A chemical exfoliant can use acids like AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) or BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids). A chemical exfoliant with a BHA such as salicylic acid such as Eminence Clear Skin Willow Bark Exfoliating Peel is ideal for acne prone and oily skin types as it penetrates the skin’s surface and the pores, allowing it to target blackheads and whiteheads. In contrast, AHAs, like glycolic acid or lactic acid are great for dry or mature skin as AHAs work on the skin’s surface and focus on the visible signs of ageing. Eminence Firm Skin Acai Exfoliating Peel is a firming peel solution for normal to dry or mature skin types, with regular use your skin will show increased firmness and a softer, younger looking complexion.

Know the Job of each of Your Skincare Products

It might sound like stating the obvious but it is vital to understand what each of your skincare products actually do. There are a lot of beauty myths out there which could actually be preventing you from getting the best from your skincare routine. For example, it is a common misconception that moisturisers moisturise. They actually work by helping to hold in your skin’s moisture, rather than replacing any lost hydration. They are the protectors of the skincare world, holding in the moisture while protecting our skin from environmental stressors such as the elements, pollution and the sun’s rays. A great all round moisturiser suitable for all skin types is Eminence Stone Crop Whip Moisturiser, if you’re looking for a new moisturiser for New Year it’s a great one to start with.

Serums are the fixers; they replenish lost moisture and hydrate the skin by absorbing quickly into the deeper layers of the skin. Apply to a freshly cleansed face so that the serum can penetrate through the outer layers of the skin. You can also layer your serums if you want to address different skin issues, apply the lightest through to the heaviest serum which is the same rule you can apply to all your skincare products. Three great serums to layer starting with the lightest are Eminence Citrus & Kale Potent C + E Serum, Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum and Marine Flower Peptide Serum, they are also great to use individually. Chose a serum, concentrate or facial oil that suits your skin type best and add to your new routine.

Understanding the exact function of your skincare products will help you to maintain a simple, stripped back skincare routine which is easy to follow and maintain and won’t leave you tempted to overload your skin with various different products that all serve a similar function.

Stay Hydrated

This one is so well known as a healthy skin care habit but we’re all guilty of not drinking enough water at times. Drinking at least two litres of water a day keeps the skin hydrated from the inside out and really is the secret to flawless skin. If you don’t particularly enjoy drinking water on its own, try fruit infused water or herbal teas, just get hydrated!

When it comes to hydration from the outside, products containing hyaluronic acid are the way forward. Eminence Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Collection offers deeply absorbing hydration leaving the skin visibly smoother, plump and refreshed.

Feed Your Skin.

The old saying is true, you are what you eat! Eat poorly and soon enough it will show on your skin, as your biggest organ your skin acts a little like a mirror reflecting the state of your health. Eat a balanced healthy diet, keep active and your body will look and feel its best. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables that are packed with vitamins can have a hugely positive impact on your skin, it stands to reason that if we apply this to our skin from the outside, we will see similar benefits. Eminence Eight Greens Range contains whole plants and seeds such as Stone Crop and Flax seed to hormonally balance and protect the skin as well as making the skin look and feel firmer and tighter.

Put Aside Time for Self Care

Never feel guilty about spending time looking after yourself, taking care of our personal well-being and mental health is incredibly important. Taking time for yourself to combat stress really shows on your skin, a great way of combining self-care with skincare are skincare masks. Setting aside a bit of time to relax with a drink and watch a favourite tv show while treating your skin with a lovely face treatment will do wonders for your stress levels. Eminence Snow Mushroom and Reishi Masque detoxifies, de-puffs, tightens and contours while retaining hydration in the skin, absolutely perfect as part of a relaxing evening of self-care.
