Out with the old, in with the new!

The quickest and easiest way to start your new skincare routine is to give your bathroom cabinet an update. Just to make it clear, we’re not suggesting you throw all your current skincare away as this would be both a waste of products and of money.

It’s very likely that you have products that you can incorporate into your new skincare routine and in fact often breathe new life into products you may have been using in the same way for years by switching up how you use them and which products you use them with. Having said this there are some products which you simply must discard, anything you know is old or can’t remember buying, has changed colour, smell or texture. Any products containing anything nasty like parabens, sodium laurel sulphate (SLS), butylated hydroxyamino (BHA) and retinol should be examined closely and potentially permanently removed from your bathroom.

Eminence uses natural retinol alternative in products such as Bamboo Firming Fluid, Neroli Age Corrective Hydrating Mist, Neroli Age Corrective Eye Serum and Monoi Age Corrective Exfoliating Cleanser. The natural retinol alternative is derived from Chicory root and Tara Tree gum which visually rejuvenates your appearance with smoother and firmer looking skin without the unpleasant side effects such as redness and irritation.

Go Cleaner and Greener

Chemical exfoliation for the face is often a blend of acids and enzymes that are applied topically and work on the surface and depending on the exfoliant, within the deeper layers of the skin. On the surface of the skin, they work to remove the dead skin cells whilst in the deeper layers they help to stimulate collagen and elastin production. On the surface of the skin chemical exfoliation reveals a brighter, smoother, more youthful appearance as the new cells are no longer hidden underneath the dead cells! Within the skin chemical exfoliation can help improve firmness, elasticity and support, resulting in a younger complexion with minimised lines, wrinkles and sagging.

When you exfoliate your skin regularly you will also find that your other products work more effectively and you often use less as the dead skin is no longer acting like a barrier to those products!

There are many different kinds of Hydroxy Acids and some work better on certain skin types:

Chemical Exfoliation for Acne:

Acne tends to go hand in hand with an oilier skin type. The best chemical exfoliation for acne is a Beta Hydroxy Acid called Salicylic Acid. This hydroxy acid is oil soluble which means it works best on oily skins as it helps to reduce excess oil, clears congested pores whilst minimising enlarged pores. Try Clear Skin Willow Bark Exfoliaitng Peel designed especially for oily and acne skin types.

Chemical Exfoliation for Sensitive Skin

Look for a gentler, lower percentage in your exfoliant for sensitive skin. Mandelic Acid, from the bitter almond is a very gentle alpha hydroxy acid and can help to reduce redness in the skin as well. Another popular AHA for sensitive skin is Lactic Acid as it also hydrates, soothing the skin. Opt for Calm Skin Chamomile Exfoliating Peel with chamomile to calm and sooth the skin whilst gently exfoliating for a smoother texture.

Chemical Exfoliation for Dry Skin

Chemical exfoliants with fruit acids can help to increase the skins moisture levels, helping to treat dryness. Eminence uses Passion Fruit and Lemon Extracts which aid cell renewal and help skins moisture levels. Again, Lactic Acid is a great option as it is hydrating and gentle on the skin. Firm Skin Acai Exfoliating Peel is our favourite chemical exfoliation for dry skin types.

Chemical Exfoliation for Uneven Skin:

You will often find Lactic Acid in chemical exfoliants for uneven skin as it can help to brighten the complexion, although other ingredients are often added to address the hyperpigmentation or uneven skin tone such as; Natural Hydroquinone Alternative and Licorice Root. Bright Skin Licorice Root Exfoliating Peel is great for uneven skins and also as the chemical exfoliation for aging skin.
