What are Eye Gels

What Are Eye Gels?

Eye gels are often a water-based product, specifically formulated to hydrate and refresh the delicate skin around the eyes. Eye gels are usually lighter in texture and feel fresher, sometimes even cooler when applied to the skin around the eyes which happens to be a little thinner and can be more sensitive than the skin on the face.

Some eye gels have a liquidy texture whilst others have a more gel like consistency as oppose to a creamy one! Eye gels are often popular with those who have an oilier skin type due to their light feel and are perfect for tired and puffy eyes as they refresh and cool the eye area too.

How Do You Use Eye Gels?

We have put together some tips on how to use eye gels and best application techniques so you can see the best results from your eye gel.

Remember the eye area is more delicate than the skin on your face due to thinner skin especially under the eyes, some experts think it is best to pat eye products into the skin around the eyes to avoid pulling or dragging the skin which could possibly lead to wrinkles or sagging. Follow the directions on your particular eye gels, however most eye gels are fine to use 1-2 times daily.

Eye Gel Application Tips:

Step 1: Apply Small Dots Around Your Eye

Some eye gels have a pump dispenser, others come in a jar. You will typically only need about the size of a grain of rice to a pea-sized amount to hydrate both eyes. Don’t use more than is recommended as it is not necessary and will just be a waste of product!

  • Dispense the correct amount onto your ring or little finger – these fingers don’t tend to apply as much pressure as your other fingers which is better for the delicate eye area
  • With you ring or little finger gently dab little dots of eye gel around both eyes
  • The dots should be just under the eye brow and just underneath the eye. Generally, we advise you apply eye gels where the eye socket bone is, the product will seep into the eye lids and closer to the eye without applying too much product too near to the eyes

Step 2: Pat the Eye Gel from The Inner to The Outer Corner of Your Eye

We advise that you apply your eye gels working from the inner eye to the outer eye as this follows your lymphatic system and helps to drain away any toxins or fluid build up around the eyes. Reducing toxins and fluid will help to reduce under eye bags and puffiness and dark circles.

  • Again, using your ring or little finger gently pat the dots of eye gel into the skin until all the product has been absorbed
  • Work from the inside out when patting the eye gels into the skin
  • Pat your eye gels into the skin along the upper orbital bone starting just under the eye brow near your nose and finishing at the temples
  • Then pat the eye gels into the skin along the orbital bone underneath the eyes again starting at the nose and finishing at the outer corner of the eyes

Step 3: Continue to Pat The Eye Gel Until It Has Been Absorbed

Ensure all of the eye gel product has been absorbed into the skin otherwise you may find it can leave a tacky residue on the skin which can trap make-up, dirt or impurities.

If you find that it is taking a long time for your eye gels to be absorbed you may be using too much product. It should roughly take up to about 30 seconds for you to apply your eye gels, if you find you are patting your eye gels in for longer then use less product.

Using too much product can lead to wastage but you may also find that using too much eye gel can result in slight irritation around the delicate eye area

What Are the Benefits of Using Eye Gels?

Remember eye gels are a lighter textured eye product, they are ideal for a younger skin, oilier skin type and for sensitive eyes. Eye gels are refreshing and hydrating and can really target eye concerns such as tired eyes and puffiness.

Eye Gels Provide The Skin With A Deep Hydration

Many Eye gels contain ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Neroli Oil or a hydrating juice such as Cucumber or Coconut Water. When you hydrate the eye area you will improve fine, lines and wrinkles, refine the texture of the skin and improve moisture levels in the skin.

Hyaluronic Acid infuses the skin with hydration and locks in vital moisture in the skin helping to protect the eyes as well. If you are looking for an eye gel for dry eyes try our Neroli Age Corrective Eye Serum as Neroli and Coconut deeply hydrate and nourish the eye area. Our eye gel for sensitive skin would be Cucumber Eye Gel with soothing cucumber and evening primrose oil.

Prevent Sagging Skin

Using an eye gel regularly will infuse the delicate skin around the eye with active ingredients that will help to restore elasticity and collagen fibres, both are vital in the prevention and repair of the visible signs of ageing. As we age our collagen and elastin fibres become weaker and we produce less of them than we did when we were younger.

This can result in fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. Vitamin A, Coenzyme Q10 and Natural Retinol Alternative are ingredients Eminence use to stimulate collagen and elastin production whilst helping to strengthen these fibres as well. This results in a reduction in sagging skin and fine lines and wrinkles. Our favourite eye gel for wrinkles or an anti aging eye gel is Neroli Age Corrective Eye Serum.

Minimises Puffy Skin

Most of us at some point will experience puffy eyes as puffy eyes can result from lack of sleep, diet and aging. Puffiness under the eyes can be a result of fluid retention from a buildup of excess fluids in the tissues under the eyes, it can also result from aging as our tissue and muscle fibres become weaker and then the fat cells deeper within the skin become more apparent and look like puffiness around the eye area.

Eye gels help to eliminate fluid retention with ingredients such as Eyebright, you can also try drinking more water to help flush the excess fluid away. For aging related puffiness, strengthening the tissues and muscle fibres with ingredients such a Coenzyme Q10, Vitamins A and C and Evening Primrose help to stimulate cellular renewal and strengthens fibres. Cucumber is a popular ingredient found in many eye gels as it is refreshing, revitalising and toning helping with puffiness, dark circles and fine lines.
